Lapwings´ Artsy & Thoughtful Berliner "Masquerade"

Returning with a heartfelt follow up to their previous political single “La ligne d’en bas”, Lapwings is excited today to share their new dark melodic pop-rock single “Masquerade” with an artsy and thoughtful music video.

The song was recorded in Berlin at Thommy Hein Studio (Nick Cave, Korn) and produced by Enda Gallery (Charity Children, Kid Simius). The result is a poignant melancholy love song supported by poetic lyrics and an elegant arrangement of cello and guitars transporting the audience into various vibrant atmospheres throughout the song.

After denouncing the far right parties and the racism against refugees with their highly engaging and captivating animation video “La ligne d’en bas”, Lapwings releases this time a refined and aesthetic video with a subtle critic of technology versus real-life connections. video directed by Axel Lerner (Vice Media) suits the song progressive mood perfectly, building up the orchestral tension until an ethereal and powerful dreamy ending.

Lapwings’ unique organic sound is hard to put in a box or specific music genre, just like his frontman Jeal, the Belgian scientist who cut his ties with the corporate world in Belgium to give flight to his musical ambitions in Berlin. Add to that the international dimension of the band (Natasha - Cello - USA; Klari - Drums - Germany; Marco - Bass - Italy) and you have a melting pot of influences, by turns wistful and then jauntily upbeat, all bedded in rich strings, with a pinch of various pop rock and singer-songwriter influences (Arcade Fire, The Lumineers, Coldplay’s early years, Neil Young, Passenger...).

Lapwings’ first single “Love Blinkers” received enthusiastic feedback for their fresh and organic sound and was played by several German and Belgian radios (Classic 21, Radio Ostfriesland, Radio Q, Radio Rüsselsheim, Detektor FM, EchoFM, Radio Feierwerk). 2018 is going to be a busy year for Lapwings: the band is preparing their summer gigs, a Fall tour in Germany, Switzerland and Belgium and being currently in the studio to record a new set of live songs and music videos.

Side note: Jeal and Natasha have been very active to help the Berlin musician community and created Music Suit Up, currently the biggest Meetup group in Berlin for artists to connect and learn tips from music industry professionals.
